My thoughts on politics

Everyone who knows me knows that I'm not one to engage in a political conversation. But if I'm being honest, I do wish I was better at researching and more knowledgeable about what's going on in the world these days so that I can be a good steward of my right to vote. Most of the comments I've made in regards to the current election include a plan to move back to Europe or to Canada. Part of me is joking. Usually in political conversations I just try to make myself scarce because otherwise I'll probably just get anxious and overwhelmed about the current state of our country and the downward spiral that it has potential to spin in. Please know that in no way am I saying that it's pointless to vote or that it doesn't matter, because I believe that God has given us a certain stewardship and responsibility to live and be present in the here and now, and that includes all sorts of things, including having a say in who leads our country.
But in the midst of all this uncertainty of what seems more like a popularity contest than what's actually good for the people in this country, I am reminded that my hope is not and never should be in the leaders of our country or in the state it is in. I am not left without hope for the future or without a leader who truly sympathizes with people in any situation. I have a King who holds all authority in heaven and on earth and He will reign forever. Thus concludes my miniature and uninformed rant, and so begins the perspective that I'm choosing to take this election season...and all of life.

The Lord loves those who do right.

The Lord protects the foreigners.

He defends the orphans and widows,

but he blocks the way of the wicked.

The Lord will be King forever.

Jerusalem, your God is everlasting.
